As a valued member of the global ethics & compliance team, this position will help us protect and build on the LS&Co. legacy through the day-to-day management of essential corporate ethics and compliance initiatives.At Levi Strauss & Co., the Ethics & Compliance function is an independent and objective body (within the greater legal department), tasked with periodic assessment of a variety of compliance issues and concerns within the organization. This position ensures that the Company’s Code, ethical culture, and corporate reputation remain top of mind, and that employees continue to engage in ethical business practices in compliance with relevant laws and the Company’s policies, procedures, and controls.The LATAM Ethics & Compliance Manager will support key, high visibility corporate compliance initiatives across the LATAM region, with a focus on theWorldwide Code of Business Conduct(the “Code”), third party compliance and risk management, internal investigations, compliance training, conflicts of interest, and the continued enhancement of an ethical corporate culture.Through cross-functional collaboration with key departments, stakeholders and influencers on priority compliance initiatives, this compliance role will frequently interface with other areas of the business including Sourcing/Supply Chain, Corporate Security, Finance, Internal Audit, Procurement, Trade Compliance, and IT, among others.Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the point of contact for Ethics & Compliance matters in the LATAM region, managing the day-to-day operations of the regional program and partnering with regional leaders to ensure cross-functional collaboration.
  • Review, monitor and manage the Ethics & Compliance Reportline for LATAM, ensuring that new matters are addressed, referring to subject matter experts (SMEs) as appropriate, and tracking progress on open cases; manage and oversee internal investigations in the region.
  • Conduct due diligence on third parties across the LATAM region, using a variety of compliance and research tools and escalating red flags to the rest of the team when identified.
  • Support the team in developing training materials and quarterly metrics provided to the Chief Compliance Officer, General Counsel, and Board of Directors (Audit Committee), regarding compliance program initiatives, quarterly highlights and any identified risk areas.
  • Collaborate with other departments to drive compliance-focused initiatives; functions may include Legal, HR/Employee Relations, Sourcing/Supply Chain, Corporate Security, Finance, Internal Audit, Procurement, Trade Compliance, and IT.
  • Promote the Company’s ethical culture across all functions and geographies.
  • Expected to observe the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct, and to set an example for other Company employees; champion the Company’s core values and demonstrate personal integrity, respect, and teamwork in the performance of all job duties.
  • Role will require occasional international travel, as requested.
Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required; law degree, social sciences or business degrees preferred (but not required).
  • Minimum of 5 years of prior compliance and/or legal experience
  • In-house corporate experience strongly preferred.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English; knowledge of Portuguese desirable.
  • Experience conducting internal investigations.
  • Experience with a multi-national (global) public company focused on one or more of these areas is desirable: legal, audit, supply chain compliance, logistics, operations, and/or retail.
Skills
  • Extensive experience conducting and coordinating internal investigations.
  • Familiarity with anti-bribery and anti-corruption, sanctions and financial crime regulations.
  • Experience developing and conducting compliance training (content development and/or LMS platforms)
  • Ability to conduct research on legal entities using a variety of research tools and open web source.
  • Technical proficiency or exposure to compliance-focused software solutions, including EthicsPoint, or similar investigation databases/software
  • Strong problem solving, critical analysis and time management skills, with the ability to juggle different requirements and tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong team-based orientation along with ability to operate collaboratively.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills with the aptitude to master new data integration or technology solutions intended to automate the Company’s compliance efforts and metrics.
  • Able to identify and rapidly escalate compliance concerns and offer potential solutions to legal/compliance colleagues, and business leadership
  • Able to apply a practical and reasonable approach to compliance issues and initiatives, while maintaining a high standard of integrity.
